About Artistic Director Caitlin Costner
Early Training
Caitlin began dancing with Plimpton School of Dance at the age of five and continued to love every moment of her evolving career as a dancer. She continued her dance education for the next seven years with Prima Ballerina DeeDee Leda, followed by 3 years of training in classical ballet, Vaganova style, with Alabama Ballet under the tutelage of Wes Chapman and Roger Van Fleteren. While there, Caitlin was delighted to dance with the Alabama Ballet Company's productions of George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Madeline, and Don Quixote. She enjoyed additional training in jazz and modern with Sissy Monroe and Teri Wexler. Caitlin trained for two summers with the Nashville Ballet under the direction of Adam Sage.
Post High School Training and Teaching in NYC At Joffrey Ballet
After high school graduation, Caitlin was honored to accept a scholarship to Joffrey Ballet School in New York. There, she continued her training in the Vaganova style under the tutelage of the late John Magnus, Gelsey Kirkland and Francesca Corkle. A highlight of her jazz training there was studying in workshops conducted by the Alvin Ailey School of Dance. While at Joffrey, Caitlin was honored to teach in the Children's Division for three years. After receiving her Certificate of Completion in the Trainee Program at Joffrey, Caitlin continued her studies at Steps on Broadway, Broadway Dance Center, and Peridance Capezio Center. In these well-known institutions, Caitlin trained with more top ballet masters including the late David Howard. She enjoyed taking classes while dancing alongside Wendy Whelan, Paloma Herrera, and Marcelo Gomes. As a dancer, choreographer, and educator, Caitlin teaches with integrity and energy, investing in the lives of the young dancers she is privileged to instruct.
